3R’s – Reduce, Recycle, Reuse

“Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat”- Fortune favours the bold”    (a Latin Prover)

The 3R Initiative (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) was proposed at the G8 sea-land Summit in June 2004. The initiative aimed to build a sound material cycle society through the effective use of resources and materials. The main principle behind this initiative is reducing the waste generated. Recycling the waste into something which can be further used reusing using the item till it has its value/usable aspects

Reuse

Reusing is using those old items you might consider throwing away and finding a new use for them. Reusing helps where reducing is not possible

(i) Reuse products differently: A broken tub for plotted plants; use the peel off of vegetables for vermicomposting

(ii) Sell off good old clothes, furniture, etc

(iii) Reuse products until they have their values. E.g use existing Bags, Don’t ask for a new one

(iv) Use the kitchen used waters for watering garden plants

(v) Use the leftover food the next day

Recycle

Is converting old items into new ones so that it can be used again. Recycling is the main concept of 3R and one of the important component of environmental Conservation

(i) By-products which are made of recycled material

(ii) Use more recycled papers

(iii) By-products that can be recycled

(iv) Avoid buying hazardous materials that cannot be recycled

(v) Invent news ways to recycle different items

 Reduce

Is simply generating less waste. it is the best method to keep your society clean. Why? Because it eliminates the sources. Make less waste, clean up less mess

(i) Buy in Bulk to avoid Excess packaging

(ii) Avoid disposable goods

(iii) Use Electronic media over print media to save paper and trees

(iv) Use cloth material over paper for napkins, towels, etc

(v) Turn off Electronic devices when you are not using them to save electricity

The 3R’s help to cut down the amount of waste generated. That helps in conserving natural resources landfill space and energy. we all can make a significant contribution. Think before you bin!. It saves energy, natural resources and helps to reduce pollution and reduce the need for landfill.
